Platform: Nintendo GameCube
Price I Paid: £2.50
Well, may as well finish off all the Simpsons Games I own on GameCube, so let's review The Simpsons Road Rage. Obviously not better than Road Rage, but still a very good game. The story for this game is that Mr. Burns has made some evil bus brigade to take over the town or something. This just isn't right! How dare Mr. Burns provide buses, reducing pollution on the environment, giving people lifts to and from their areas, so you play through the game with 25 different characters, with different cars. That's pretty good, nice plot set up, I suppose and there's a large variety of characters to choose from, that is after you've unlocked them all.
Better talk about the controls. Slippy, is what I'd call them. But, slippy in a good way. I remember that this game was critically given the "Meh" out of ten, saying the controls were poor. But I enjoyed them. They're slippy, yes, but it makes me think it's all part of the chaos that's taking part around you, I know what they mean by the fact that the controls aren't the best, but it's still playable and enjoyable.
I mentioned that there are a lot of characters to unlock, you can also unlock new areas to explore and drive around. Every time you hit a certain amount of cash, you can unlock either a new character or map. You can choose what you unlock. So you can basically get all the characters you want, then go for all the maps, then clean up the rest of the characters. I like the idea of choosing what you unlock, but it removes a sense of challenge for me. Set objectives for certain characters, for example beating them in a race would be ideal.
Graphical wise, it's, okay. It's like Simpsons Hit and Run, but a bit lower resolution, I'm not one to talk about graphics, because that shouldn't influence you playing a game.
While the game is fun, the slippy controls may put some gamers off and the lack of character unlock challenge is a let down. With that in mind...
The Simpsons Road Rage gets a 7/10
