Game Review #19 - Cook, Serve, Delicious!

Platform: Steam
Store Page
Price I Paid: Free! (TremorGames)

Wow, this game. Ever played the Papa's Cooking tycoon games? This game is a lot like that, but so much better in challenge, gameplay, re-playability and everything else. You'll notice straight off that I adore this game.

I honestly don't know where to start. You're a chef who's opened up a restaurant in an apartment block skyscraper thing, residents will (hopefully) come into your restaurant and eat your over priced corn dogs and drink your "Le Cheap" wine for an extortionate rate. You can choose up to four menu items at the start of the game and all food options are available (so long as you've bought the correct kitchen appliance to cook them) with a wide variety of foods, drinks, desserts and so on and so forth.

Customers will come in and out of the restaurant purchasing foods and drinks, make their food correctly, you'll get smiley faces, cook it fairly well, you'll get that "meh" face, cook it wrong or just don't cook it, you'll get a sad face and that person will most oftenly leave without paying. All the items can be upgraded, which mostly add an extra level of challenge to the game, such as a different seasoning on a fish or different ingredients in a soup.

Graphic style is nice, I'm a big fan of the comic-esq look to the game, it really is great and compliments the game very well, with a mix of graphical and gameplay strongpoints being fantastic together.

You also have to cater to other things a restaurant would, like cleaning the toilets, washing the plates and drawing criminals on a notepad to hand into the police in the middle of rush hour. Yes, there are two rush hours in the game, where more customers will come in, usually you have enough time to send off all the orders without fault, but you'll slip up on something.

I did try out extreme mode, because I'm fairly good at the game I suppose and I must say, Extreme Mode was a challenge, but if you practice it a few times it really is easy. Just more customers than usual, less time to prepare it, all the usual stuff.

You always have to complete a checklist too, which are things like pass the safety inspection, have a variety of different items on the menu and have a perfect day. Perfect days are easy, just don't mess up any orders and make sure everything gets taken care of. Sounds challenging, it isn't really, again, just practise.

One thing I noticed is that I'd only pick certain foods because of how bloody complicated some of them are, like the salad, soup and drinks machine. I just stayed away from them and I did fine, swapping Chicken and Steak for Corn Dogs and Pretzels every so often.

Cook, Serve, Delicious! is a really fun game, restaurant simulator wise anyways, but I enjoyed the game. The variety of different foods to choose from, the art style and you can tell a lot of effort has gone into the game. There's rarely a dull moment in the game, however there isn't really a benefit to buying certain foods that I found other than extra challenge.

Cook, Serve, Delicious! gets a 9/10

Obligatory E3 Analysis - EA

So, by law I've been forced to do this, here's the E3 EA Roundup for 2015.

Mass Effect Andromeda Announced

Another Mass Effect game? Alright then, I don't see a problem with that, I don't mind the series, haven't played it all, only a bit of the second one and that was extremely fun. We haven't gotten too many details on the game, it's scheduled to come out around Christmas 2016, so we'll hopefully get some more information on the game next year.

Excitement Meter:

Need for Speed makes a return

Need for Speed was a very popular game series back in the day and now that it's back hopefully it'll do well. What's that? It's a F2P game with micro-transactions? Oh no...Oh God no. EA have a tendency to ruin nice things, honestly not too surprised or bothered.

Excitement Meter:

Star Wars Battlefront

Alright EA, you've impressed me. Star Wars Battlefront is being made by Dice, the people who handle Battlefield titles, so while the game will probably be a buggy mess, I'm sure we'll get some realistically good Star Wars action out of the deal. I'm not too concerned because the E3 release trailer looked good. What I am concerned with is the pre-order "bonuses" that EA have slapped on to make a quick bit of money before the game comes out.

Excitement Meter:

Mirrors Edge 2

I...I don't honestly know. I didn't play the first one, but the games both look very artsy, I might play through the second one, it looks alright, but Anita Sarkeesian is apparently working on the game or something so it might just be worth sticking to the first one.

Excitement Meter:

Sportsball

Excitement Meter:

Unravel

This, is actually rather interesting. It goes to show that not everything EA makes is a reboot of a beloved franchise or the inevitable sequels. So, to be honest, it was nice to see something from EA that was new. Massive props to EA for actually thinking of something new.

Excitement Meter:

So there you go, the next obligatory analysis will be out sometime between tomorrow and never.

Ten Games that NEED to be backwards compatible with the Xbox One

Yeah, Xbox One can now play select 360 games, for beta testers, they get to enjoy a whole 18 games, most of which are digital downloads, but as we make progress, we'll start seeing more games, but here's the ten games I want to see on the Xbox One compatibility list. Not even Sony were expecting this, we certainly weren't. These are my OPINIONS, the list will not include games that are already working on backwards compatibility and these are in no particular order. Also only games I own.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I think it's only fair that this game gets released onto the Xbox One, what with the Elder Scrolls Online being about as good as a team of monkeys working on the game, so we'll take the next best thing. I'm gonna place my bets and say that all of Bethesda's big games will be out there on the Xbox One, so don't worry Vault Dwellers and Dragon Hunters, I'm more than positive we'll have these games being compatible in no time.

Fallout New Vegas

Another great game by Bethesda, and with the release of Fallout 4 on November 10th, I want to go back through the older games and play through them before the inevitable downfall of society as a whole, when Fallout 4 is released and everyone become's a slave to Bethesda. This game, like Fallout 3 is a lot of fun, has a lot to offer and has a lot of cheap DLC to expand your gameplay.

Dead Rising 2

I like zombie games, but Dead Rising 2 offered something new. An open world zombie game where you could do whatever the hell you wanted, obviously Dead Rising did this first, but Dead Rising 2 was and is still a fantastic game that needs to be compatible with the Xbox One. I've played hours upon hours of this game and haven't really made any progression with the story or achievements, it was one of the few games where it was too fun to care about anything else.

Fable III

I feel as if this game was underestimated for whatever reason, I know Peter Molyneux is a giant lord of death that created this game, but, c'mon, it's Fable. It obviously isn't as in depth as it could be but I enjoyed my Kingly duties, buying properties, slaughtering innocent people, laughing at the homeless and breaking promises. Just like the British government.

Call of Duty: World at War

My favourite of the Call of Duty games, World at War, not for it's campaign, obviously for the zombie mode. It was fantastic, one of the only Call of Duty games I still play to this day, just the same four maps for the past 7 years has been fun and I really do hope this gets to be backwards compatible, because, let's face it, this was one of the most fun Call of Duty games out there.

Left 4 Dead

But Ewan! What about Left 4 Dead 2? That featured the first four campaigns and more DLC than EA could dream of! So? I loved the original Left 4 Dead, more so than the sequel. I'm sure both will be compatible but I'll be playing Left 4 Dead, not Left 4 Dead 2. I'm actually not sure why I prefer this game over the second instalment, so I'll let you fill the rest in. I like the game because ___________

Rage

Rage was extremely overlooked in my opinion, it looks like a gritty brown shooter, it is a gritty brown shooter but it is extremely fun, considering it came from the people who made DOOM AND QUAKE. Apparently that isn't good enough to fight off against Gears of War, so the game didn't do as well as it should have. Which is a shame because this game is really fun.

Castle Crashers

I haven't played a whole lot of this game, well, I have, but nobody plays it anymore, which is a shame because it's a lot of fun, the guys who made this made Battleblock Theater as well, but I remember them more for this game than anything else. 4 Player action packed fun, a whole lot of comedy, boss battles, weapons, pets and characters. It really is fantastic, and with Alien Hominid being backwards compatible, we'll probably see Castle Crashers at some point too.

Fallout 3

Just like New Vegas, this game has offered me a lot of gameplay and stuff, but I never got round to playing it, making this compatible for the Xbox One is most likely going to happen, especially since Fallout 4 is just around the corner.

Halo Wars

This is the game least likely to be compatible, seeing as though the Master Chief Collection will probably add this game to their broken list of games they want to suck money out of. Which is a shame because Halo Wars was one of the few good strategy games on the Xbox 360 and the fact that it doesn't have a sequel is shameful.

So long as Microsoft doesn't mess this up in any way, we should be fine...
